Orange Pip Market is on the move this weekend in response to the latest government guideline changes to indoor venue requirements.
Relocating from its proposed venue of Middlesbrough Town Hall, the popular artisan food and drink festival will now be held outdoors on Centre Square.
Visitors planning to attend are encouraged to take a lateral flow test before the event. Capacity will be limited and hand sanitising stations will be available throughout the site.
Featuring all the usual Orange Pip fare including food, drinks and gifts, there will also be live entertainment on the stage from performers such as local acoustic artist Abbie Lince.
Apollo Arts will also be bringing all the Christmas cheer with a selection of well-known festive hits and House of Love will present a ‘curious’ themed Christmas.
The live music will continue with karaoke legends ‘Rockaoke’, where members of the audience can sing on stage with a live rock band. A specialist disinfectant will be sprayed on microphones after each use to ensure Covid-safety.
Other activities to look forward to include a Best-Dressed Dog show for the regular Orange Pip K9 visitors, a colouring-in cube designed by Abby + Owen, a treasure trail around the site featuring family-friendly spot prizes and walkabout performers and artists.
Centre Square will be filled with a festive atmosphere. The large Christmas tree will be lit up for all to enjoy, the trees throughout the square will be sparkling and shining, and specially made props and pop-ups will bring a sense of Christmas charm and delight to the event.
Councillor Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Culture & Communities, says, “It’s great news that Orange Pip Market is being moved outdoors and can still go ahead.
“Centre Square is such a good space for large events. It allows us to monitor the flow of people in and out of the event with ease, and to follow outdoor safety regulations to help keep visitors safe.
“Wrap up warm, have a great festive day out, and enjoy all the brilliant entertainment, and tasty food and drink that Orange Pip Christmas has to offer.”
